A few local outlets are reporting a key part of the identity of one of the suspects captured in the attack at the STEM School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado on Wednesday.

According to numerous accounts, the 18 year-old suspect is a transgender person that is undergoing transition from a female to a male.

Police admit that they originally identified the suspect as a male but later discovered they identify as a female.

The mother of the suspect told the New York Post that she didn’t know why the suspect had committed the horrible attack that took the life of one student and injured numerous others.

When asked if the suspect had been bullied, she responded, “I don’t, no,” and added while crying, “I’m sorry, I just can’t talk right now. Thank you.”

Another suspect in the attack was underage and has not been identified yet.

According to KMGH-TV, the suspect was bullied over their transgender representation.

The murder victim has been identified as Kendrick Castillo, who is being hailed as a hero for accosting one of the murderers and sacrificing his life to save other intended victims.

“I think I wouldn’t be standing here right now, I think I wouldn’t be able to tell the stories for how brave Kendrick was, how brave Jackson and Lucas and everybody were because they made that choice to sacrifice themselves so that all of us could go home that night,” said one student.

Castillo was just three days away from graduating.
