House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), confirming that the Democratic Party has now embraced anti-Semitism and party loyalty over honor and principle, criticized Republicans who had blasted anti-Semitic Rep. Rashida Tlaib for her false and devious remarks concerning Israel, the Holocaust, and the Palestinians.
Hoyer bleated, “”If you read Rep. Tlaib’s comments, it is clear that President Trump and Congressional Republicans are taking them out of context. They must stop, and they owe her an apology.”
Tlaib had stated:
There’s always kind of a calming feeling, I tell folks, when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors — Palestinians — who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people’s passports. And just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time. And I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways. But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away, and it was forced on them.
President Trump tweeted, “Democrat Rep. Tlaib is being slammed for her horrible and highly insensitive statement on the Holocaust. She obviously has tremendous hatred of Israel and the Jewish people. Can you imagine what would happen if I ever said what she said, and says?”
Rep. Liz Cheney tweeted, “Surely now @SpeakerPelosi & @LeaderHoyer will finally take action against vile anti-Semitism in their ranks. This must cross the line, even for them. Rashida Tlaib says thinking of the Holocaust provides her a ‘calming feeling.’”
As far as Tlaib’s narrative of the Palestinians providing a safe haven for Jews who had survived the Holocaust, as Tablet Magazine pointed out after telling the stories of some of the Jews who were survivors of the Holocaust who were murdered by Palestinians, “There were 433 more Holocaust survivors killed by Palestinians and Jordanians violently opposing the creation of a safe haven for Jews in what had historically and spiritually been their homeland. To attempt and rewrite their well-documented experiences is to victimize them yet again, an unforgivable and deeply anti-Semitic act.”
Additionally, Tlaib’s lie that the state of Israel was only created because of the Holocaust is a vicious one; Jews have lived in the land since time immemorial, and even if there are those who cynically deny the Jews’ Biblical claim to the land, in 1917, the Balfour Declaration stated, “His Majesty’s Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.”
“Palestinian” prior the the 1948 War of Independence usually meant Jews; the land was only named “Palestine by the ancient Romans to wipe out any connection to the Jewish claim to the land.
The Democrats have now embraced the vile and overt anti-Semitism of some members of their party. The veil covering their anti-Semitism has been pulled back, and people who have any moral principles should act accordingly.
