A woman in Alabama tried to shoot someone she was having a fight with in what authorities described as a road rage incident, but ended up inadvertently shooting her own husband instead.
Here’s what we know
According to AL.com, 31-year-old Cullman County resident Erica Cole was involved in a dispute with someone at around 6:45 p.m. Saturday on Alabama Highway 69 in Dodge City, Alabama. From there, the fight continued into nearby Bremen. Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry revealed that the altercation ended at a home off County Road 160 in Bremen, according to the Associated Press.
At some point, Cole decided to shoot the other person, but missed.
Instead of reaching its target, the bullet hit her husband, Nicholas Cole, in the head. He is reportedly in stable condition and is being treated at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s UAB Hospital.
Although her husband may recover from his wound, Erica Cole will have to face punishment for firing a gun at someone in the first place. She is being charged with attempted murder, assault in the second degree, and reckless endangerment. The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office told TheBlaze that she was “currently being held in the Cullman County Detention Center with no bond.”
It is not clear at this time what caused the fiasco in the first place, but the investigation is still ongoing. The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office is working on this case “in conjunction with the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office.
