Socialist freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) (“AOC”) has spiraled so far out of control with her attacks against Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) that even President Donald Trump is now coming to the defense of the House speaker.

On Friday, President Trump took a shot at “disrespectful” AOC for her public comments against Pelosi — most recently, those suggesting the top Democrat is targeting AOC because Pelosi is a racist.

“I deal with Nancy Pelosi a lot and we go back and forth and it’s fine, but I think that a group of people is being very disrespectful to her,” Trump told reporters on Friday, according to Mediaite. “And you know what? I don’t think that Nancy can let that go on.”

“[Ocasio-Cortez] should treat Nancy Pelosi with respect,” the president continued. “She should not be doing what she’s doing.”

Trump noted that, contrary to Ocasio-Cortez’s apparent suggestion, Pelosi “is not a racist.”

“And I’ll tell you something about Nancy Pelosi that you know better than I do. She is not a racist, okay? She is not a racist,” he said. “For them to call her a racist is a disgrace.”

As reported by The Daily Wire earlier this week, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez suggested Pelosi held racial malice against her and other minority freshman Democrats on Wednesday during an interview with The Washington Post. “When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” AOC said. “But the persistent singling out … it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful … the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color.”

In another interview, the 29-year-old suggested Pelosi was purposefully trying to keep her busy with committee work.

“I think sometimes people think that we have a relationship. Not particularly,” she told The New Yorker Radio Hour, later adding that “the last time I kind of spoke to [Pelosi] one-on-one was when she asked me to join the Select Committee on Climate Change. I was assigned to some of the busiest committees and four subcommittees. So my hands are full. And sometimes I wonder if they’re trying to keep me busy.”

On Thursday, media claimed AOC “walked back” her accusation of racism against the House speaker, though the freshman lawmaker still called into question Pelosi’s motive in “singling out four individuals” — referencing herself and fellow freshmen Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA).

“It’s singling out four individuals, and knowing the media environment that we’re operating in, knowing the amount of death threats that we get, knowing the amount of concentration of attention, I think it’s just worth asking why,” she told CNN reporter Manu Raju.
