Celebrities blasted fellow entertainer Bette Midler as racist after she issued bizarre remarks about black Trump supporters.

What did she say?

Midler tweeted a photo of a recent Trump rally, in which several black Trump supporters were visible.

The 73-year-old actress and singer captioned the photo, “Look, there are African American men in this shot! How much did [Trump] pay them to be ‘blackground?'”

What’s the backlash been like?

Actress Kirstie Alley was one celebrity who took issue with Midler’s remarks.

“This is one of the most racist, degrading ‘jokes’ I’ve seen on Twitter & that’s saying a lot,” the former “Cheers” star
wrote. “We get it Bette, you hate Trump & that’s your right but to imply Black men have to be PAID to celebrate their OWN political views is pure and REAL racism. And ‘BLACKGROUND’?? WTF??!!”

Actor Terrence Williams — a black actor — added his praise to the chorus,
writing, “Hey Bette Midler you sound racist! @realDonaldTrump did not pay any black people to support him! We can think for ourselves. I never received a checked! Has anyone received a Check? I support the @POTUS for Free!”

Midler’s offending remarks didn’t bypass outspoken Trump-supporting musician Joy Villa, either.

wrote, “Really, Bette? REALLY? @bettemidler You’re this crazy to insinuate black Americans have absolutely no mind or values of their own & would only support their country & @realdonaldtrump for ‘money’? SMH you probably think they’re all pimps & black women like me are just hoes, too?”

Model Dalene Kurtis also weighed in on the fray.

wrote, “It looks like
is having a breakdown. #BetteMidler hates everyone. #bettemidlerracist #MakeAmericaGreat.”

Anything else?

At the time of this writing, the tweet remains active on Midler’s Twitter page, which boasts more than 1.7 million followers. She has not issued a response to the charges of racism.
