Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez praised racial activist Al Sharpton on Tuesday night and later warned that climate change is a threat to the “universe.”
Perez’s high praise for Sharpton, who is currently embroiled in a public feud with President Trump, was delivered while on the debate stage during the first night of the second round of Democrat presidential debates on Tuesday.
Perez thanked Sharpton for his “leadership” and for standing up for African-American communities.
After President Trump unloaded Saturday on Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) over his neglect of the “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” Baltimore, which is in Cummings’ district, Sharpton announced that he would be traveling to crime-ridden city in a show of solidarity with Cummings and the community.
In response, Trump slammed Sharpton, too.
“I have known Al for 25 years. Went to fights with him [and] Don King, always got along well. He ‘loved Trump!’ He would ask me for favors often,” Trump tweeted Monday. “Al is a con man, a troublemaker, always looking for a score. Just doing his thing. Must have intimidated Comcast/NBC. Hates Whites [and] Cops!”
While Sharpton has been largely embraced by the Democratic Party, he has a history of making inflammatory and anti-Semitic comments, including referring to Jews as “bloodsucking Jews,” “Jew b**ards,” “white interlopers,” and “diamond merchants.”
At the CNN-hosted debate Tuesday, Perez went on to promote climate change alarmism, warning that climate change was a threat to the entire “universe.”
