Despite President Trump’s nudging, the Army will not investigate Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman regarding his testimony to impeachment investigators, a top leader in the service said Friday.

“There’s no investigation into him,” Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy said at a National Press Club luncheon Friday, according to Politico.

Vindman drew ire from the president after he raised concerns about President Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, testifying that he didn’t think it was “proper” for Trump to “demand that a foreign government investigate” former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden’s dealings in Ukraine.

After Trump was acquitted on impeachment charges in the Senate, he quickly removed Vindman from his post on the National Security Council as a part of a staff shake-up in the White House.

Following Vindman’s ousting, Trump said that he imagined the military would “take a look” at the “horrible things” Vindman told House investigators and decide if he deserved disciplinary action.

Trump did defer on the matter, acknowledging it would be “up to the military.” Now it appears they have chosen no further action action against Vindman.

Instead, McCarthy downplayed Vindman’s return to the Army, announcing that he will simply be designated to a “bridging assignment” in Washington before heading to “a senior service college this summer.”
