Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is a self-described gaffe machine, and with 21 days left in the campaign, President Donald Trump is taking aim at his proclivity toward misspeaking.

Campaigning Monday in Toledo, Ohio, where he addressed United Auto Workers at a General Motors powertrain plant, Biden said, “You know, we have to come together. That’s why I’m running. I’m running as a proud Democrat for the Senate, when I ran as a proud Democrat for vice president, and I’m running as a proud Democrat for president. But I promise you this, I will govern as an American president.”

Biden also appeared to to forget the name of Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT), who was the GOP nominee for president in 2012. “I got in trouble when we were running against that senator who was a Mormon, the governor,” he said.

Trump happily seized up on the blunders, writing on Twitter: “‘Biden losing big in Florida. Only Fake Polls show otherwise! Bad for Healthcare. Thinks he’s running for the Senate. Forgot Mitt Romney’s name, and where he was! ‘I’m running as a proud Democrat, for the Senate.’ Sleepy Joe Biden today. It’s only going to get worse. It is not sustainable for our County – China will own us!!!!’

Trump took aim at Biden again during a Monday evening campaign rally in Sanford, Florida. “Sleepy Joe Biden, not a nice guy, by the way. He had a very bad day today,” Trump said.

“If I ever had a day like he had today, they’d say: ‘It’s over. It’s over. He forgot Mitt Romney’s name. He didn’t know what state he was in. And he said today he’s a proud Democrat running for the US Senate,” Trump said. “Could you imagine if I did that? ‘Great to be with you. It’s great to be a wonderful developer from New York.’ They’d say: ‘He’s out of here. Get him out.’”

“The one thing I know for sure, President Xi of China, President Putin of Russia, Kim Jong Un — they are 100% sharp. We have someone running who is not 100%, he’s not 80%, he’s not 60%,” Trump said.

It wasn’t the first time Biden, 77, forgot what office he was running for.

“You’re the ones who sent Barack Obama the presidency,” Biden said in February while campaigning in South Carolina. “And I have a simple proposition here: I’m here to ask you for your help. Where I come from, you don’t go very far unless you ask. My name’s Joe Biden. I’m a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate. Look me over. If you like what you see, help out. If not, vote for the other Biden. Give me a look though, OK?”

Biden has also made headlines in recent days by refusing to answer questions about adding members to, or “packing, ” the Supreme Court.

In a Monday interview with a Las Vegas reporter, Biden said: “This is the number one thing that I’ve been asked about from viewers in the past couple of days.”

“Well, sir, don’t the voters deserve to know…? KTNV reporter Ross DiMattei asked.

“No, they don’t,” Biden answered, then said about  Trump, “I’m not gonna’ play his game, he’d love me to talk about. And I’ve already said something on court-packing, he’d love that to be the discussion instead of what he’s doing now.”
