President Trump released a brief statement Wednesday afternoon as reports of planned protest demonstrations ramp up ahead of Joe Biden’s inauguration week.
“In light of reports of more demonstrations, I urge that there must be NO violence, NO lawbreaking and NO vandalism of any kind. That is not what I stand for, and it is not what America stands for. I call on ALL Americans to help ease tensions and calm tempers. Thank You,” said the President in a statement from the White House.
Close to 20,000 National Guard troops will be on the ground in the nation’s capital over the next week, as security forces from all corners of the government prepare for a multitude of scenarios in the wake of last week’s incident at the Capitol building.
The President, who is currently in the process of begin impeached by the House of Representatives for “inciting an insurrection,” has repeatedly discouraged any and all violence in the aftermath of the Capitol breach.
