Fox News reporter Lindsay Watts tweeted on Wednesday a shocking tweet, talking about the massive surge in car-jackings in her home area of Washington DC.

“In light of [the] awful attack on a driver Tues, I found out DC car-jackings are up 350% this year! And in 2020 they were up almost 150% over 2019. Numbers below by ward [police district]. DC Police have said perpetrators are often teens, sometimes repeat offenders.”

The latest grisly and disturbing incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in southeastern DC, on Van Street SE, near Nationals Park.

According to detectives investigating the case, a 15-year-old girl and her 13-year-old friend attacked Mohammad Anwar, 66 years old and at the time working for Uber Eats, with a taser while he was in his car.

The botched carjacking resulted in the car crashing after Anwar was dragged by the vehicle, partially conscious. Anwar died of his injuries.

Uber officials released the following statement:

“We are devastated by this tragic news and our hearts go out to Mohammad’s family during this difficult time. We’re grateful the suspects have been arrested and thank the Metropolitan Police Department for their diligence with this investigation.”

Anwar’s family commented in another statement:

“The family is devastated by this senseless crime. Mohammad Anwar was a father, a grandfather, a husband, a brother, and uncle beloved by many here in the US and in Pakistan. He was a hardworking immigrant who came to the US in 2014 to build a better life for himself and his family. The loss for his family is immeasurable.”
