Former Gaetz staffer holds press conference about ‘FBI encounter’
Ex-Gaetz staffer says he talked to FBI, is convinced teen-sex allegations were fabricated
Nathan Nelson, Gaetz’s former director of military affairs, said two agents questioned him at his house after they had heard from members of the media that Nelson knew of Gaetz’s alleged involvement in illegal activities.
“I’m here to state this morning that nothing could be further from the truth,” Nelson said at a press conference in Florida. “Neither I, nor any other member of Congressman Gaetz’s staff had any knowledge of illegal activities.”
Nelson said FBI agents claimed to have information from the “media” that he was aware of the congressman’s alleged illegal activities, which was why he allegedly chose to leave his job in October.
“This baseless claim against me leaves me further convinced that the allegations against Congressman Gaetz are fabricated and merely an attempt to discredit a very vocal conservative.”
Gaetz slammed the FBI, claiming the agency is “literally running down false media rumors.”
“Sound familiar?” Gaetz added.
