A man barricaded in a room at a Hawaii hotel shot through the door at security staff on Saturday evening, according to police, leading to a lockdown at Kahala Hotel & Resort in Honolulu.
“Nobody is injured. Everybody is accounted for,” Police Capt. Brian Lynch informed reporters, according to Hawaii News Now. “We’re just waiting for the suspect to give up.”
The outlet reported that according to sources, the suspect is in the Navy.
“The first shot was fired about 6 p.m., and minutes later police were clearing the beach and beachside eateries at the Kahala Hotel and yelling at guests and passersby to get inside,” the outlet reported. “More than 100 people were ushered into the ballroom, where they remained late Saturday. Guests staying in rooms near the barricaded man were subsequently evacuated, and others were asked to stay in the lobby.” The outlet also said that people located in their rooms at the facility were instructed to shelter in place.
Hotel security staff knocked on the door to the man’s room around 6 p.m., according to police. The man allegedly shot at least once.
“Thankfully, the security guard wasn’t standing in front of the door,” Lynch said.
The outlet also reported that “Police sources tell Hawaii News Now that the suspect also fired through his door multiple times as officers in the hallway called his name.”
