The union president of Border Patrol agents said Vice President Kamala Harris is avoiding a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border despite being named the administration’s point person on the “root causes” of migration.
“If she goes to the U.S. border, people are going to expect her to fix the problem, so she avoids it. That’s disgusting because that’s putting politics ahead of what’s best for this country,” Brandon Judd, who represents more than 18,000 members of the National Border Patrol Council, said during a segment of Fox News Live.
Seeing the problem firsthand, meeting with Customs and Border Protection officials, and witnessing the overflowing migrant housing facilities is “what the president and the vice president are supposed to do,” Judd told Fox News Live host Griff Jenkins.
The Fox News host said that some Border Patrol officials have told him the current crisis is the worst they have ever seen.
“It’s really getting pretty much at a point they haven’t even seen in their 20-year career,” Jenkins added.
The border crossings, Judd explained, have become exasperated by a failure of the Biden administration to enforce immigration laws.
“As long as we continue to release people into the United States after they violate our laws, with no consequences, people are going to continue to come. That’s the simple fact,” he said.
These laws were specifically designed to curb illegal immigration and to encourage migrants to pursue a legal means of entering the country.
“We have the biggest open arms. We want to accept people into this country, but we want to do it legally, not illegally,” he said, noting the issue has become too politically charged for lawmakers to take any serious action.
“The Left wants to excuse illegal immigration. They want to excuse the cartels abusing these children, taking these children and sexually abusing them, physically abusing them, mentally abusing them. They want to excuse this and, by policy, they continue to perpetuate this situation, and it’s gaining cartels ground, and it’s making them billions of dollars every year off of human misery.”
Harris has said her focus will be on meeting with the “Northern Triangle” countries, but she has yet to speak with any leaders from El Salvador and Honduras.
The vice president has spoken with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei and Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
