Bill and Melinda Gates are getting a divorce, the couple announced Monday.
The pair, who founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000, said they are splitting up after 27 years of marriage.
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” the couple said in a statement posted to both of their Twitter accounts.

The pair said they will continue to work together at the foundation, but concluded that they can no longer “grow together as a couple.”
“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives,” the couple wrote.
“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives,” they continued.
“We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life,” they added.
The couple married in 1994, after meeting seven years earlier at a trade show in New York.
Their foundation has played an active role in the battle against COVID-19, committing hundreds of millions of dollars toward the development and distribution of coronavirus tests, treatments and vaccines.
