Rescuers in Ukraine said Thursday they have found survivors among the hundreds trapped in the basement of a theater blasted by Russian airstrikes in the city of Mariupol.

The strikes Wednesday evening collapsed a large section of a three-story theater building in the center of Mariupol, according to photos released by the city council and reviewed by the Associated Press.

As many as 1,000 residents – including women and children – are believed to be amid the rubble, after having taken shelter in the theater’s basement to avoid the Russia’s bombing of port city and other parts or Ukraine, with Russia invasion on the neighboring country now in it third week, the wire service also reports.
