Superstar A$AP Rocky was reportedly detained at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Wednesday in connection with a shooting stemming from 2021.
The 33-year-old rapper, born Rakim Athelaston Mayers, had reportedly arrived on a private plane following his trip in Barbados with pregnant abortion activist girlfriend Rihanna, reported NBC News in a piece published Wednesday.
The “Good For You” hitmaker’s attorney, Alan Jackson, confirmed to the outlet that his client had been arrested in connection with a shooting that hadn’t yet been reported in the media.
According to police reports obtained by the outlet, Mayers was reportedly under investigation for shooting a person “three to four times” on November 6 near Vista Del Mar and Selma Avenue around 10:20 pm. The rapper was reportedly walking down the street with two others when the reported shooting occurred. According to the victim, one of the bullets reportedly grazed one of his hands.

The arrest occurred at the southern California airport and involved the Los Angeles Police Department with the help of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations team, the outlet noted.
This is the not the first time Mayers has had legal trouble. In 2019, the rapper was arrested in Sweden following a street fight between his entourage and two other men. The rapper was convicted of assault. He had to pay more than $1,000 in damages and served a month in jail before being sentenced. No further time was handed down at the sentencing.
After being released, the “Wave Gods” hitmaker put out a statement calling the experience a “very difficult and humbling” one, reported Page Six at the time.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all my fans, friends and and anyone across the globe who supported me during these last few weeks,” Rocky wrote on Instagram.
“I can’t begin to describe how grateful I am for all of you this,” he added. “This has been a very difficult and humbling experience.”
A$AP Rocky and Rihanna made headlines in January when she announced the two were expecting their first child together.
“Excited by the challenge and also very accepting of it,” Rihanna shared. “And I’ve surrendered to my journey and I’m enjoying it.”
“I’m like waiting for the ball to drop cause I hear all these horror stories, right?” she added. “And then I’m just like, but I’m having a good time. You know? I’m really enjoying it. It’s a journey that’s never going to end, you know?”
“Like it just continues even afterwards,” the “Diamonds” hitmaker continued. “So, I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to being a teacher. But mostly being a student, cause I think I’m gonna be learning more from my kid than I could ever teach them.”
