Russian officers are said to be in disarray after Vladimir Putin has taken direct control of the military campaign in Ukraine after he allegedly lost patience with top brass.

A senior EU source has said that the Russian President has “now taken day-to-day control of the conflict,” leaving Russian officers in Ukraine shocked.

Putin is said to have given his officers an ambitious new goal and series of war demands that must be fulfilled before the Victory Day celebrations, scheduled for May 9.

Orders insist that Russian forces must capture and occupy the city of Kryvyi Rih, the birthplace of Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Putin is said to have taken over from Russian officials in the war against Ukraine, and has set a startling deadline

Should Kryvyi Rih fall to Russian forces, it is said that Putin would be given a major boost in war propaganda, marking the invasion of Zelensky’s birthplace.

But Russian officers are said to have been left in dismay at the prospect of having to seize the city before Victory Day.

Social media user and frequent Ukrainian war commentator “U0I” wrote: “Putin is demanding that Dvornikov take Kryvyi Rih, Zelensky’s homeland, by May 9. We are told from communication interceptions that Russian officers are simply in shock.”

U0I continued by laying out the number of losses the shocked officers had lost, claiming that 400 soldiers a day were killed and wounded.

The social media commentator said: “They have losses of 400 soldiers a day killed and wounded, and their equipment keeps breaking down.”

The reports come in light of a Russian army apparently escaping death after coming under artillery fire near the city of Izyum, with General Valery Gerasimov said to be among those injured in the attack, Daily Express reports.

Veteran Victor Kovalenko tweeted: “Yesterday’s Ukraine attack on the Rus. HQ in Izium was designed to liquidate the high-value target – chief of Gen. Staff of RAF Gen. Valeriy Gerasimov.

“The Kremlin sent him to get a victory for the May 9 parade. Gerasimov was close to the blast but wounded. Gen. Gerasimov suffered a minor shrapnel wound to his right shin without breaking a bone.”
