For the first time in his life, world’s richest man Elon Musk voted for a GOP candidate —Mayra Flores from Texas’ 34th Congressional District. Musk shared the news on Twitter, saying “I voted for Mayra Flores – first time I ever voted Republican. Massive red wave in 2022.”

Musk was, unknowingly, part of an historic moment: Flores is the first Mexican-born woman ever elected to Congress. The 34th also hasn’t gone red in more than 100 years.

A pretty exciting victory. Or, if you’re Democrat Representative Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), a victory for white supremacy…somehow.

“Elon Musk is not a leader. He’s just another Republican billionaire who supports white supremacy and authoritarianism because he doesn’t want his workers to unionize or to pay his fair share in taxes,” the lawmaker tweeted.

He added, “The GOP just tried to end democracy and now he’s supporting them.”

Twitter had a tough time figuring this one out.

“Damn White Supremacists are immigrating here from Africa and voting for Latinas. Who woulda guess that one?” one Twitter user wrote.

“Maybe, instead of this, you could’ve said ‘I’m happy to welcome Congresswoman-elect Flores to our hallowed halls and look forward to the bipartisan work we can do together to better the lives of everyday Americans across the country,’” another user wrote.

“I’m no expert on white supremacy, but I’m pretty sure that voting for a Latina would be against the rules of “white supremacy”. Like, I think it’s specifically mentioned in the ‘White Supremacist Handbook’.

I might be wrong, though…”

Flores thanked Musk for his support and emphasized that she’s representing everyone in the 34th district.

“I’m grateful to him for supporting me because this also is not just about me, it’s about the people here in Texas district 34 that deserve prosperity in this area.”
