Democrat-run cities across the United States are seeing a brutal and violent Fourth of July weekend, with dozens of people shot in Chicago, two children shot, one fatally, in Houston and a string of robberies targeting US Postal Service employees in Washington, D.C., and southern Maryland.
Over the holiday weekend in Chicago, 35 people were shot and 5 people were killed by Sunday afternoon, police say, according to ABC 7.
The total may be much higher now. HeyJackass!, an organization that does statistical organization and analysis of crime in Chicago, reports that 12 people have been shot and killed and 40 people have been shot and wounded since July 1.
Tragedy struck Houston early on Sunday when a 5 year old was killed and an 8 year old was injured after they were shot in a vehicle at an intersection, police stated.
Several are dead and many more are injured following a string of shootings in New York City over the Fourth of July Weekend. At least two teenagers are among the dead; they were shot in separate incidents during broad daylight.
Meanwhile in Washington, D.C., and southern Maryland, postal service officials are concerned after mail carriers were targeted in at least six armed robberies over a two-day period, U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) spokesman Michael Martel said, Fox News observed.
The robberies happened on Thursday and Friday ahead of the July Fourth weekend. The suspects are reportedly taking workers’ personal property and postal service items. In two of the six gunpoint robberies, the carriers were assaulted or hit in the face or head.
“It is a sad state of things when it comes down to robberies against someone that provides an essential service to our communities. But it’s happening here, and it’s got to end,” Martel stressed.
