The good guy with a gun has been identified.

According to a report from Fox News, 22-year-old Elisjsha Dicken, of Seymour, Indiana, has been identified as the hero who stopped the Greenwood Mall shooter before he could take any more lives. “The alleged gunman, 20, opened fire with an AR-15-style rifle around 6 p.m. Sunday at the Greenwood Park Mall, located just south of Indianapolis, firing 24 rounds within two minutes before [Dicken] killed the shooter.”

“He engaged the gunman from quite a distance with a handgun and was very proficient in that, very tactically sound,” the city’s police chief, James Ison said of Dicken. “And as he moved to close in on the suspect, he was also motioning for people to exit behind him.”

Ison says it’s “nothing short of heroic.”

According to Fox News, Dicken fired 10 rounds from his handgun, according to the chief, and as he fired, the gunman “attempted to retreat back into the restroom and failed, and fell to the ground after being shot.”

Dicken’s brother, Cameron, was incredibly proud.

“He’s my lil brother,” Cameron told Fox News Digital on Tuesday. “And he’s an amazing kid and I’ve never been more proud of anyone in my entire life. What he did was selfless and amazing.”

“And he did what he did because it was the right thing to do not for fame or glory but because he knew that he couldn’t just stand by and let it continue to happen.”

More from Fox News:

The gunman entered the mall and walked into a bathroom, where he spent about an hour before he emerged and opened fire, police said. Investigators believe he spent that time preparing and possibly assembling a disassembled rifle that he had brought in his backpack.

Investigators found a second AR-15-style rifle in the bathroom. They also found on the deceased gunman a handgun, a waistband holster and several magazines that contained more than 100 rounds of ammunition.

Ison said the gunman, of Greenwood, was apparently facing eviction before opening fire at the mall, and the suspect’s family did not have any indication that anything was wrong or that he may turn violent.
