A military museum has asked visitors to stop having sex at the historic site after new security cameras caught several “lusty” pairs in the act.

The Fort Gerhard museum, a former 19th-century Prussian fortress in the coastal town of Świnoujście in Poland, said they’d seen “three lovers engaged in trysts” in the space of a month.

The Fort Gerhard museum wrote on social media: “‘Our guests are kindly requested… how can we put it… no ars amandi [the art of love] in the museum, please!’

The post added: “We ask our amorous guests to be understanding – most of the exhibits in our museum are from many years ago and accustomed to entirely different moral norms – conservative, even orthodox and abstemious. Let’s not expose them to discomfort!”

According to the museum’s website, its exhibits ranged from “the times of Frederick the Great to the end of the Cold War”.

Museum director Piotr Piwowarczyk told local newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza: “In less than a month we have already had three recordings of lovers engaged in trysts.

“Visitors to the fort have various temperaments, some of them very conservative. We don’t want them to be shocked during their visit by stumbling across a couple engaged in lustful antics.”

He said the lovers might have been attracted to the museum’s dark corners and not realise they were being watched by cameras.

Mr Piwowarczyk urged those that couldn’t control their lust to head for the beach, according to the Daily Mail.

Sex in public is illegal in Poland, and those caught in lewd conduct face either detention, a non-custodial sentence or a fine of 1,500 zloty (about £250).

Earlier this year, a survey that found one in 10 people asked had had sex at the races.

And of those who confessed, 17 per cent got the urge at Royal Ascot while 12 per cent went for it at the Cheltenham Festival.

At the Epsom Derby, the figure was 9 per cent. Newcastle is also a popular racecourse for a quickie with 7 per cent, but York and Doncaster less so, at 5 per cent and 3 per cent respectively.

The freebets.com poll also asked 2,000 UK racing fans if they’d ever cheated on a partner at the races.

Around 14 per cent of men said yes, while only 4 per cent of women admitted a romp. Racegoers aged 25 to 34 were most likely to have got under starkers orders.
