During Friday’s White House press briefing, Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre if the White House had an official response to China’s threats to shoot down  Nancy Pelosi’s plane.

“An official who is associated with Chinese State media is suggesting that if Speaker Pelosi tries to go to Taiwan that her plane could be shot down. Does the president have a response to that?” Doocy asked.

“I’m not going to speak on a hypothetical,” KJP said.

Doocy was likely referring to state-affiliated media reps and outlets sharing threatening tweets on Twitter.

“If US fighter jets escort Pelosi’s plane into Taiwan, it is invasion. The PLA has the right to forcibly dispel Pelosi’s plane and the US fighter jets, including firing warning shots and making tactical movement of obstruction. If ineffective, then shoot them down,” said Hu Xijin, who is affiliated with China’s state media.

China’s state-run Global Times also shared an opinion piece —a warning to Pelosi.

“Chinese mainland will fight to the end to thwart Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. Taiwan Straits will be the place where the US will finally show its true “paper tiger” face. As for Taiwan authorities, they will show themselves as shivering “paper mice.”

Pelosi has not officially announced if she will visit Taiwan or not during her Asia visit; she confirmed at Friday’s press conference that it would be a security threat to reveal sensitive information.
