A California police officer and two bystanders have been shot and the suspect is reportedly currently barricaded in a house in Arcadia on Wednesday night in an unfolding incident, according to local authorities.

“Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide investigators are assisting Arcadia Police Department with a shooting investigation,” the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) said in a statement on Wednesday night.

LASD said the incident was reported at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the 2500 block of Greenfield Avenue. City officials warned residents via social media to “stay away” from the area due to “emergency police activity” prior to LASD’s notice.

“One officer and two other victims suffered gunshot wounds,” LASD said. “There is no additional information available at this time.”

The law enforcement agency called for anyone with information about the unfolding incident to contact LASD’s Homicide Bureau at the number listed in their statement. Tips can be provided anonymously through “Crime Stoppers” or with the “P3 Tips” phone app.

Just before 7 p.m., the City of Arcadia confirmed that “emergency police activity” was in progress, warning residents to avoid the area.

“Emergency Police Activity is in progress in the 2500 Block of Greenfield Avenue, Arcadia. Shoots have been fired. Stay away,” the city said on Twitter.

Fox News producer Alexandria Hernandez provided early details on Twitter citing an unnamed source, reporting that the suspect may have been reported to law enforcement by a family member.

Hernandez said police arrived on the scene and “began taking rounds from [the] suspect.” The reporter said the officer was transported to a hospital, and in an update said the officer was in a stable condition, according to Fox News.

This is a developing story.
