A couple was taken into custody on Sunday after the pair allegedly admitted to engaging in sexual intercourse while on the Giant Wheel at Cedar Point, where other riders, including two minors, could see them.

According to a report from police in Sandusky, Ohio, where the Cedar Point amusement park is located, David Davis of Florida and Heather Johnston of Ohio, both 32, engaged in sexual intercourse and publicly exposed their private areas while on the ride shortly after sundown on Sunday evening. A group of four riders in the cart just below them said that they saw what the two were doing and could feel the cart shaking back and forth.

“The group said that the couple knew that they were watching and started laughing and continued their behavior,” according to the police report.

WTVG reported that at least one of the minors described the experience as traumatizing.

When confronted by a Cedar Point sergeant and Sandusky police, the couple initially denied the accusations. Johnston claimed that she had dropped a pack of cigarettes, which had fallen out of the shorts she was wearing under her dress. The couple claimed that she had bent over to pick the cigarettes back up and that Davis had been helping her.

However, when told that two minors had witnessed the sex acts, the two confessed, according to police. They were then taken to Erie County Jail and charged with public indecency, a first-degree misdemeanor. The charges were enhanced because of the minors involved.

Davis and Johnston appeared in Sandusky Municipal Court on Monday morning. Both appear to have a $175 bond assessed against them. A court document also lists Davis’s birthdate as October 12, 1998, which calls into question whether he is actually 32, as has been reported.

The two face up to 180 days in jail if convicted.

Fox News reported that Cedar Point has not commented on the incident. The park’s website homepage claims that “Cedar Point is where moments, memories and connections are made. These connections last for generations and are built on tradition.”
