It’s amazing how selective the concern is from Democrats about threats to law enforcement and other positions of power.
According to Politico, top level Democrats are putting pressure on social media companies to promptly deal with threats to law enforcement in the wake of the FBI raid on Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago.
House Oversight Chair Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.), chair of the panel’s Homeland Security Subcommittee, are asking eight social media companies whether they’ve seen an increase in threats against law enforcement officials following the search of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence — and what steps they’re taking to fight back.
Who got the letters? Meta, Twitter, TikTok, Truth Social, Rumble, Gettr, Telegram and Gab. Here’s an example of the letter, which went to Meta.
A key excerpt:
“We are concerned that reckless statements by the former President and Republican Members of Congress have unleashed a flood of violent threats on social media that have already led to at least one death and pose a danger to law enforcement officers across the United States. We urge you to take immediate action to address any threats of violence against law enforcement that appear on your company’s platforms.”
The letters ask for the number of threats the platforms have tracked since the search, the policies each company has for removing threats and whether they’ve seen an uptick in threats since the search. Maloney and Lynch asked the companies to produce documents to the committee by Sept. 2.
I don’t remember hearing this level of concern from Democrats when threats were being made to Supreme Court justices in the wake of the Roe v Wade ruling. How many came out and passionately condemned the threats after the assassination attempt on Kavanaugh?
But let Trump’s home get raided and suddenly Democrats become the moral authority on threats to public officials. It’s so ridiculous.
