It’s off ‘pause’ and closed down for good.

According to a report from The Daily Wire, the infamous Disinformation Governance Board, created under the Department of Homeland security to monitor Americans online and control the truth, has officially been shut down for good; DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas made the announcement this week.

“The Department welcomes the recommendations of the Homeland Security Advisory Council, which has concluded that countering disinformation that threatens the homeland, and providing the public with accurate information in response, is critical to fulfilling the Department’s missions,” the DHS said in the statement.

“We thank the Subcommittee for its work, which required extensive fact gathering and analysis over a short period of time,” it added.

“In accordance with the HSAC’s prior recommendation, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas has terminated the Disinformation Governance Board and rescinded its charter effective today, August 24, 2022.

“With the HSAC recommendations as a guide, the Department will continue to address threat streams that undermine the security of our country consistent with the law, while upholding the privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties of the American people and promoting transparency in our work.”

More from The Daily Wire:

The Board’s work was paused in May after Republican Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares sent a letter co-signed by 20 GOP attorneys general to Mayorkas threatening legal action against the “un-American” Disinformation Governance Board.

Nina Jankowicz, an author and “expert” on disinformation, resigned as the board’s executive director following the group’s pause.
