The longtime publicity firm of Jason Aldean abruptly dropped the country music star after nearly two decades together. The PR firm abandoned Aldean following a social media post from his wife that some people felt was controversial and “transphobic.”
Nashville publicity firm the GreenRoom announced last week that it would be parting ways with Aldean.
“Music has always been and remains The GreenRoom’s core focus, so we had to make the difficult decision after 17 years to step away from representing Jason,” The GreenRoom co-owner Tyne Parrish told Billboard in a statement. “We aren’t the best people for the gig anymore, but will always be big fans of his music — he is one of the greatest live entertainers in country music.”
Parrish did not explain the reason for dropping the Aldean – who has earned five Grammy Award nominations, including two for “Best Country Album.”
The GreenRoom cut ties with Aldean after his wife posted a social media message that some people found to be offensive.
On Aug. 23, Brittany Aldean shared an Instagram video to her 2.3 million followers of her putting on makeup with the caption: “I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life.”
The “Dirt Road Anthem” singer reacted to the post with a laughing emoji and a reply that said, “Lmao!! I’m glad they didn’t too, cause you and I wouldn’t have worked out.”
However, some people were offended by the post.
Country music artists Maren Morris and Cassadee Pope both believed the remarks to be transphobic.
Pope wrote on Twitter, “You’d think celebs with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging. But instead here we are, hearing someone compare their ‘tomboy phase’ to someone wanting to transition. Real nice.”
Morris reacted by saying, “It’s so easy to like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie.”
On Aug. 26, Brittany Aldean responded to Pope, and argued against transgender surgeries and treatments that are also called “gender-affirming care.”
“Advocating for the genital mutilation of children under the disguise of love and calling it ‘gender-affirming care’ is one of the worst evils,” she wrote on Instagram. “I will always support my children and do what I can to protect their innocence.”
Aldean said that her young son Memphis recently wanted to become a dinosaur and that her baby daughter Navy may want to be a cat in the future.
“They’re children. Some parents want to be accepted by society so badly that they’re willing to make life-altering decisions for their children who aren’t old enough to fully comprehend the consequences of those actions,” Aldean declared.
“Love is protecting your child until they are mature enough as an adult to make their own life decisions. Thankful my parents allowed me to go through my tomboy phase without changing my gender.”
In a post shared on Aug. 31, Aldean added, “Per usual, my words have been taken out of context over the last week.”
Aldean also used the post to promote her “Barbie-inspired” collection of conservative-themed merchandise. The clothing line features T-shirts and sweatshirts emblazoned with the words: “Don’t Tread On Our Kids.”
