President Joe Biden on Friday hinted that Vice President Kamala Harris might some day become the nation’s leader.

“Kamala won’t be the last woman to be vice president — or president,” he said in the White House East Room, according to the Washington Times.

Much speculation has surrounded whether Biden plans to run for reelection in 2024. California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom has stated that he would seek the presidency if Biden declined to run again.

Harris has faced repeated staff turnover issues, made several gaffes, and significant Republican criticism for not visiting the southern border. Most recently, the vice president earned rebuke for erroneously claiming the United States was allied to North Korea during a speech at the Demilitarized zone separating the communist regime from the democratic government on the peninsula.

The Washington Times suggested that Biden used the Jewish New Year event at the White House to “bolster Vice President Kamala Harris’ credentials” amid the media criticism.

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, who is Jewish, was present at the event. He applauded Biden for standing up for marginalized religious communities, saying “[o]n this issue, we have a president and vice president who know that all Americans must be able to worship without fear or violence,” per the outlet.
