The Alaska Republican Party on Monday evening voted to censure Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell over attack ads against Trump-backed Kelly Tshibaka, R, who is running to unseat Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski.
In a Facebook post, the state party reaffirmed its “full-throated” support for Tshibaka and attacked McConnell and the Senate Leadership Fund for running ads against her in “direct contradiction” of the state party.
The party demanded that the fund immediately halt its attacks against Tshibaka and “discontinue the support of all other opposing candidates.”
The attack ads mostly focused on claims that Tshibaka wasted taxpayer money and allegations that she may have committed fraud, per Forbes.
Recent polling shows Tshibaka poised to unseat Murkowski, who earned the state party’s ire over her vote to impeach former President Donald Trump.
