President Donald Trump’s legal team has formally received a subpoena from the House select committee investigating the events at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Representing Trump in the affair is The Dhillon Law Group, according to Politico. Dhillon attorney Matthew Sarelson accepted the subpoena on Monday.

The committee seeks Trump’s deposition prior to Nov. 14 and the provision of documents by Nov. 4. Trump has not yet announced any plans to contest the subpoena.

The House committee issued the subpoena following a series of public hearings on the affair in which they largely worked to pin the blame on Trump for its occurrence.

Should Trump choose to contest the subpoena, the legal proceedings would almost certainly delay his appearance before Congress until after new lawmakers are sworn in next year. With Republicans poised to seize control of the lower chamber and likely dissolve the committee outright, such a delay would likely mean Trump never testifies.
