Last night, President Joe Biden took to the stage with a prepared speech in which he ominously warned the nation about rampant “political violence” that threatens the very fabric of democracy. And what was the source of all of this violence? Why, it’s the mega-MAGA Trump Republicans and all of their conservative allies, of course. They’re lurking around every corner, waiting to intimidate voters and shut down the electoral process. I won’t bore you with any excerpts from the speech because you’ve heard it all before and it’s repeated ad nauseam on cable news networks 24/7.

Of course, at the very same time that the President was preparing to deliver this tirade, some very real political violence (or at least a spirited attempt at it) was taking place in New Hampshire, not that you’ll be seeing it on CNN this morning. A crazed “activist” attempted to punch a U.S. Senate candidate in the face just as he was preparing to approach the lectern to debate his opponent. Sadly for Joe Biden, this would-be assailant didn’t fit the propaganda mold we’ve been warned about repeatedly. The intended victim was General Don Bolduc, a Republican, and he was preparing to debate incumbent Democratic Senator Maggie Hassan. (NY Post)

Republican New Hampshire Senate candidate Don Bolduc dodged a punch from a would-be assailant before stepping onstage to debate Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) on Wednesday, according to reports.

Bolduc, 60, a retired Army brigadier general, was apparently unharmed, and the individual who attempted to assault the Senate candidate was arrested, according to his campaign.

“As the General said on stage tonight, it’s time to lower the temperature of the political discourse in this country. Prior to the debate, an individual in the crowd gathered outside attempted to punch the General and was quickly apprehended and arrested,” a Bolduc campaign spokesperson told Boston 25 News.

The attempted assailant was simply described as a “libertarian activist.” According to Bolduc’s staff, the man had shown up at the previous debate and had been “acting aggressively” toward some of Bolduc’s volunteers. He had done the same last night prior to the attempted attack. Police quickly arrested the man and took him away.

So since this is apparently the game we’re all supposed to be playing, who is to blame for “fomenting” this violence? Well, Hassan has been out on the trail “warning” voters about Bolduc’s endorsement by Donald Trump and the dangers posed by all of the mega-MAGA election deniers. Bolduc is a threat to the very fabric of democracy! Is it any wonder that one of her loyal, libertarian-anarchist supporters decided to try to attack the General? Perhaps Joe Biden could find room for this incident in his next speech.

Just as a reminder, General Don Bolduc was considered so unelectable by New Hampshire Democrats that they actually ran ads supporting him during the primary. In the most recent polling out of New Hampshire, Bolduc is tied with Hassan. How’s that plan working out for you guys?

In any event, the debate between Bolduc and Hassan went on as planned. Hassan attempted to paint Bolduc as an “extreme” outsider who would “not be accountable” to New Hampshire voters. Bolduc stuck to his key themes of inflation, rising prices, and spiraling crime rates. He tied Hassan to the hip of Joe Biden at every turn, promising to turn the country around in all of those categories. And given Joe Biden’s lack of popularity in the Granite State, that was probably a pretty solid strategy. Don Bolduc has held more than 150 town halls across the state, gripping and greeting in the oldest tradition of retail politicking. Judging by the poll numbers, all of the work seems to be paying off. This one looks like it’s going to come down to the wire, and a seat that the Democrats very recently thought was solidly safe may end up flipping.
