South Carolina GOP Rep. Ralph Norman says that Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is not a conservative and he agrees with former presidential candidate Michele Bachmann that McConnell should step aside.

“Being a Republican, you need to practice conservative principles, which should be the motto of our party,” Rep. Norman said on Wednesday’s edition of the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show. “Mitch McConnell does not represent that. I was glad that Senator [Rick] Scott ran against him, but he’s no conservative.”

Former GOP presidential candidate and Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann called for Sen. Mitch McConnell to resign from his current term and hand the reins over to someone else.

“I would hope, with all due respect that Mitch McConnell will just recognize and leave,” Bachmann said on the John Solomon Reports podcast. “I think even for him to leave now in his term would be wise and to hand the reins over.”

Rep. Norman said he agreed with Bachmann’s analysis, but did give McConnell credit for some victories he achieved.

“I could not agree with Michele more,” Rep. Norman said. “What she’s saying is right. Mitch McConnell, to his credit, shepherded through the Supreme Court justices. But he should do that.”

According to Norman, the Senate won’t get to a productive place until McConnell is out.

“We just got to stop passing anything the Senate has until they get their act in place,” Rep. Norman concluded. “And under Mitch McConnell, it can’t happen and it can’t come quick enough.”
