President Joe Biden is out there calming things down after video was released by the Memphis police department showing the beating of Tyre Nichols that led to his death at 29 years old.
The videos released by the Memphis PD are from multiple different bodycams and dashcams. Retired NYPD detective Rob O’Donnell on Fox News last night said things do not look good for the officers involved.
Tucker Carlson said the videos show an abuse of power and are hard to watch, but do not demonstrate racism, “systemic or otherwise.”
Nevertheless, protests are in full force and have turned violent in several places. And it is only the beginning.
So what does President Peaceful have to say?
Like so many, I was outraged and deeply pained to see the horrific video of the beating that resulted in Tyre Nichols’ death. It is yet another painful reminder of the profound fear and trauma, the pain, and the exhaustion that Black and Brown Americans experience every single day.
That’s the president of the United States saying that in America, people who aren’t white are traumatized and attacked “every single day” in the United States. He says it to encompass ALL “black and brown Americans,” not even just some.
He’s saying that in America daily life is fear, pain, and exhaustion.
The president. Is calling the country he’s leading. Full of pain and fear and trauma and exhaustion and beatings.
And then, after saying that, he has the absolute bipolar audacity to say this:
My heart goes out to Tyre Nichols’ family and to Americans in Memphis and across the country who are grieving this tremendously painful loss. The footage that was released this evening will leave people justifiably outraged. Those who seek justice should not to resort to violence or destruction. Violence is never acceptable; it is illegal and destructive. I join Mr. Nichols’ family in calling for peaceful protest.
Don’t resort to violence, you oppressed and beaten millions! Unreal.
Tucker Carlson is right that the videos are hard to watch. Brutal and awful. An abuse of power for sure, and if you don’t think so just listen to the conversations the officers have as the videos play out.
But this is not what life is like “every day” for everyone in America who is not white. If it was, Joe, don’t you think maybe you’d be releasing bipolar statements like this a bit more often? I mean seriously.
